Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has been denied bail.
The British socialite is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.
In a bail petition filed in Manhattan District Court, Maxwell said she and her husband would post bail for $22.5 million of $28.5 million backed by all her assets, with most of the remaining funds coming from friends and family.
However the judge, Alison Nathan, who had previously denied the 59-year-old bail in July, said she “again concludes that no conditions of release can reasonably assure the defendant’s appearance at future proceedings”.
The Judge said that federal prosecutors had persuaded her that Maxwell “poses a flight risk”.
