Girl and father killed in Sydney after pram rolls onto rail tracks

According to Sydney police, a train was heading straight for a pram containing two-year-old twin girls. The disaster claimed the lives of one of the kids and the ‘heroic’ father who rushed to save the other, reports RTE.

Police reported that one of the little girls just made it out alive “by sheer luck” when the pram slid off a platform at Sydney’s Carlton train station in the south.

The train that seemed to pass over her on its route to central Sydney in the early afternoon appeared to have “largely untouched” her, according to police, reports RTE.

Paul Dunstan, superintendent of police for New South Wales, stated that the parents “their hands off the pram for a very, very short period of time” when they stepped off the elevator that had brought them down to the station platform.

“Whether it’s a gust of wind or, we’re not quite sure, but it appears that the pram has instantly started to roll in the direction of the train lines,” he told a news conference, reports RTE.

After being notified, police and emergency services showed up shortly after and saw the pram beneath the train, which had slowed down as it approached but was not supposed to stop at the station.

The other girl and her father, forty, had perished, but one of the children remained uninjured.

According to Mr. Dunstan, the father had “just gone into parent mode” and attempted to save his girls, reports RTE.
