Global shortage of test tubes sees UK health service running out of test tubes used for blood tests causing GP’s to prioritise who gets a blood test and who doesn’t

Test tube stocks in the UK are running dangerously low and the NHS in England and Wales is forced to temporarily stop all non-urgent blood testing.

There are currently global shortages of test tube products and company Becton Dickinson – which makes vials for the NHS – is among those facing serious supply chain issues.

According to the BBC, the NHS in England and Wales has told surgeries and hospitals to temporarily stop some blood testing – with patients told they will only be able to get tests if they are urgent. Some UK patients are already being told they will have to wait 4 weeks before they can have a blood test.
