Golfer Paul McGinley receives Freedom of Donegal at a reception held in his honour

An event has been held in Donegal to award the Freedom of Donegal to golder Paul McGinley.

According to RTE, the decision to give the honour to Mr. McGinley was made last year “in recognition of his golf achievements on the European and PGA Tour, his winning captaincy of the 2014 Ryder Cup Team and his enormous contribution in promoting Donegal as a golfing destination.”

Mr. McGinley was born in Dublin but both of his parents were born in Donegal and he has said that he spent a lot of time in the county as a child and he is a very proud to promote it as a golfing destination.

Previous recipients of the Freedom of Donegal award include Daniel O’Donnell and Packie Bonner.
