A mum in the US says she has forgiven her husband for the death of their babies when he forgot to drop them off at creche and left them in his car on an extremely hot day in 2019.

According to the Daily Star, Marissa Quattrone Rodriguez said she could not believe it when her husband Juan Rodriguez rang her at work to tell her that their one-year-old twins Luna and Phoenix had died after he forgot to drop them off at creche and instead left them in his car and soaring heat.

Marissa said that she eventually found it in her heart to forgive her husband but things were very difficult for them for a long time, and she found it hard to keep going, saying “I struggled with my desire to stay here on earth for a while.”  Her husband was placed on suicide watch at one point but they managed to keep their relationship together so they could give their six-year-old son a good life.

Marissa is now campaigning for a Hot Car Act in the US to prevent similar tragedies.  The Act would ensure that new cars are fitted with a device that will alert people to the fact that there is still a person in the car after the engine has been switched off. The hope would be that other families would not have to suffer the loss and pain of the Rodriguez family.
