Good Friday Services take place throughout the world with particular emphasis placed on praying for ISIS victims and defeating the extremists

Good Friday Services have taken place and will be taking place this afternoon and this evening here in Ireland and around the world.

Packed Churches, marking the passing of Jesus by venerating the cross, heard Sermons fiercely focused on the West defeating the Islamic extremist group ISIS.

With the horrific events of this week’s terrorist attacks in Brussels, ISIS was firmly put in the prime place for priests to pray for the victims and the defeating of the terror  group.

Fr Michael O’Brien said:
“We want to put particular emphasis on ISIS for what they have done to Christians in particular, what they plan on doing to our religion and praying for the powers that be to do their best to combat the evil that is ISIS”.

Meanwhile, RTE showed a service from Clyde Road in Dublin 4.
