There was good news for parents today as it was confirmed that the Back to School Allowance will be increased by 25%.
The much welcomed announcement comes after the new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar made the decision to increase the allowance in one of his last actions as Social Protection Minister.
It is now understood parents of Primary School children will receive €125, whilst parents of children over 12 will receive €250.
The news of the increase has been welcomed by children’s advocacy groups across the country who have said the increase will help around 108,000 families nationwide.
The Department of Social Protection say all increases will be paid out in August.
