Good news for social welfare recipients as thousands more eligible for €200 bonus




The announced changes to the spring cost of living package will see thousands more people qualify for a €200 bonus in April.

It was revealed that the cash raise would be paid to all long-term welfare recipients to help with the current cost-of-living crisis, reports The Mirror.

The government said the payment would be made to everyone who received the Christmas bonus and would include those looking for work or sick pay for more than 12 months.

They also announced that those in receipt of the Working Family Payment, who were not part of last year’s Christmas bonus, will receive this bonus.

Only a lump sum of €200 will be paid per person receiving a qualifying assistance payment.

To qualify for Working Family Pay, employees who meet the following conditions:

– Work 38 or more hours every fortnight (any combination of hours). You can combine your weekly hours with the hours of your spouse, common law partner, or common law partner to meet this condition. You cannot use time spent in self-employment (or in Community Employment, You, JobBridge or Rural Social Regime) to satisfy this condition.

– Your job is likely to last at least 3 months.

– You have at least one child who normally lives with you

– Earn less than the WFP income limit set for your family

Other social welfare payments that includes in the €200 bonus are:

– Back to Work Family Dividend

– Benefit payment for 65-year-olds

– Blind Pension

– Carer’s Allowance and Carer’s Benefit – including half-rate Carer’s Allowance

– Community Employment

– Disability Allowance
