There was good news for tenants today as the Seanad passed new legislation that will allow rent to be capped.
The new Bill was rushed through the Seanad and passed without any hiccups. A number of Senators also passed a motion asking President Higgins to sign the legislation earlier than ordinarily allowed, so that the caps can be introduced immediately.
The new laws were passed after the Seanad rejected motions from Sinn Féin and Labour to link the cost of rent to inflation.
