There was some good news for the self employed workers as new legislation has been passed that will them to claim jobseekers allowance if they become unemployed.
Under new legislation passed in the Houses of the Oireachtas, self-employed people will be able to access social welfare payments such as jobseekers allowance as long as they contribute enough PRSI payments.
The Bill which was spearheaded by the Minister for Social Protection Regina Doherty will now go before the President Michael D Higgins where it will be officially signed into law.
It is expected that the legislation will be enacted this November.
