A heroic family rescued a hiker who spent two weeks stranded in a forest in New Mexico, ABC reports.

The father and his two children were trekking in Santa Fe national park when they encountered the hiker, who suffered chronic back pain and was described as delirious and unable to walk. After giving him food and water, the trio walked for 3 miles to call for emergency services.

A team of firefighters spent eight hours searching the woodland for the man, but were unable to find his exact location. The following day, the samaritan dad went on his own search first thing in the morning and found where they’d left the hiker.

Emergency services were able to tend to the man and bring him to hospital. He had injured his back while hiking, and had spent two weeks surviving on water from a nearby stream that he drank through his filtered bottle.
