Google, YouTube and others allegedly actively sought to influence Ireland’s 2018 abortion referendum

Silicon Valley tech giants have long been accused of exhibiting political bias and working to push certain agendas. Now however, it has been revealed that Facebook, YouTube and Google actively tried to influence the outcome of the abortion referendum in Ireland.

During the course of the referendum YouTube blacklisted abortion advertisements while Google blocked terms such as “abortion is murder,” “Irish Catholic,” “pro-life” and other terms linked to the pro-life side of the debate.

Project Veritas, a group of investigative journalists reported the effort to influence Ireland’s referendum on the eight amendment and also provided footage taken of a senior Facebook official discussing how the company will seek to prevent Donald Trump securing a second term in office.

YouTube and other social media sites have denied they’re obvious bias, but the tech giants are facing increasing pressure in the United States where there is a number of federal investigations are examining them for political bias and oligarchic behaviour.
