Government are paying for tents provided to migrants, says O’Gorman

Government funds are being used to support destitute asylum seekers with tents, according to Roderic O’Gorman, reports Breaking News.

The Minister for Integration has said that they are helping many homeless organisations give food, laundry facilities, and tents to applicants for international protection who are not eligible for state housing.

In a week of multiagency operations, two encampments in the capital were cleared of hundreds of tents along Mount Street and the Grand Canal, reports Breaking News.

The area of the Grand Canal where the tents were set up has since been surrounded by fences.

Meanwhile, this morning there are thirty-three tents set up along the Grand Canal, reports Breaking News.

This morning, Minister Roderic O’Gorman acknowledged that his Department provides cash to homeless charity that provide tents.

“Where people aren’t accommodated, they engage with a number of NGOs that our department support in terms of providing services to international protection applicants who haven’t been accommodated. Those are a range of services. They may be access to meals, access to showers during the day, and a number of those NGOs may provide tents or sleeping bags. Our department funds NGOs,” reports Breaking News.
