Government asks holiday home owners to give their properties to house Ukrainians

The Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin says there could be 250,000 beds available in second homes across Ireland, many of which she says lie idle for large parts of the year.

For now, there’s no financial incentive on offer, but that could change.

It’s understood that Failte Ireland estimates that there is anywhere between 30,000 and 60,000 holiday homes in Ireland that could be used to house Ukrainians.

Martin has urged people to give up their holiday homes to Ukrainians.
