According to recent reports only half of the proposed modular housing to be built for Dublin’s homeless families will be built by the end of this year.

The news comes after the newly appointed minister for housing Simon Coveney confirmed that funding will be made available.

It is understood that only half of the proposed buildings will be completed after the council last March issued tenders for 131 “rapid build” prefabricated houses on vacant council lands in Finglas, Darndale, Cherry Orchard and Drimnagh.

However the current funding will only cover construction of 67 houses at two of the sites at Mourne Road, Drimnagh, which will reportedly have 29 houses, and Belcamp in Darndale with 38.

Mr Coveney told reporters: “These new homes will be fast-tracked over the coming months and I expect to see families moving in to them before year-end.”
