Government issues warning to waste management companies saying they will intervene if refuse charges continue to rise

The Government have revealed this morning they will issue regulations to waste management companies if they continue to raise refuse charges.

The news comes as the new Minister for Housing Simon Coveney confirmed he will meet with the companies this evening where he will issue a verbal warning outlining the government’s intentions to intervene if the new pay-by-weight scheme is abused.

Mr Coveney also said the government will introduce strict new regulations if necessary. However Mr Coveney refused to comment on whether or not the government would suspend the charges if they became too expensive, stating it is too early to make a decision on such an issue.
