The Dáil has supported a motion calling for a nationwide ban on smoky coal.
According to RTÉ News, the motion submitted by the Labour Party received the backing of vast majority of opposition TD’s.
However it is believed that the Government opposed the legislation as they fear legal issues could arise in regards to other solid fuels.
Although a nationwide ban is not expected to be passed anytime soon, it has been confirmed that a smoky ban will be implemented in towns which have population of 10,000 or more.
