Government outline plans to appoint over 100 special needs assistants from next month

The Government have revealed they will announce plans next month that will see the number of special needs assistants increasing in 2017.

Reports say the Cabinet will officially appoint 115 assistants from January onwards.

The welcome news was confirmed by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny who said the Government are determined to provide a special needs asstiant to every child who needs one.

Mr Kenny told reporters: “We’ve had an increase in SNAs every year now for a number of years.” “We now have more special needs assistants than we have members of the Gardaí, or indeed doctors.”

“If you like, it shows you the commitment of Government to giving every child who has a particular assessed challenge or difficulty an opportunity to benefit from that.”
