The Government has today announced a series of initiatives to combat the spike in homelessness across the country in recent times.
200 extra beds will be made available for rough sleepers and 1,500 new ‘rapid-build’ units will be built by the end of 2018. These are some of the somewhat inadequate measures suggested by a Government that has presided over the downward spiral of homelessness over the last few years.
The Taoiseach said that one of the priorities is to bring people out of ‘inappropriate’ accommodation arrangements, such as hotels.
It is understood also that a ‘one-stop shop’ will be put in place to deal with homeless families.
