You have to give it to the Irish Government, they’re second to none when it comes to concocting hilarious legislation that will apply to everyone but themselves.
Recent proposals said to be considered by such hapless Government intend for homeowners to rent spare rooms to asylum seekers ‘who have been given permission to stay in Ireland’, according to the Herald.
The plan, happily dubbed ‘Rent-a-room’, would see asylum seekers from Syria, Iran, Romania, etc. camp out inside your house and avail of your kitchen, bathroom, and entertainment facilities at their leisure.
The Government would then pay a set amount to the homeowner for the privilege.
The uptake of such scheme is likely to be risible, but we’ll have to wait and see.
