The Government is set to unveil plans later today that will see a major recruitment drive in the Garda reserve.
It is understood that the state plan on making a radical overhaul to the system that will see those wishing to join the Gardaí gain greater experience and responsibility.
Under the new proposals the state will purposely recruit in the region of 300 people to become reservists this year, with the overall aim to see 2,000 members by 2021.
It is also believed that those who are recruited will work with full-time gardaí, and assist them in policing of major events.
