Government to release details of €27bn plan for improving the country’s infrastructure later today




It has reported that the Government will unveil its plan to spend a massive €27bn in improving roads, schools, housing, garda stations and nursing homes across the country.

It is understood that the Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin will outline the details of the plan later today, it is highly expected that the ambitious plan will be rolled out over the next six years, and will reportedly create 45,000 jobs which in turn will boost the economy.

According to The Irish Independent it is believed that some €3.5bn will be invested in new schools nationwide along with a major new IT system for pupils. A further €400m will be invested in nursing homes, whilst another €200m will be spent updating the garda communication system. It is also expected that an undisclosed amount of funding will be provided to update the nations transport systems which will also include a scaled down version of the Metro North. Mr Howlin will also allocate €600m for social housing projects. It is also believed that a further €1bn will be spent on flood defences over the next 10 years targeting 300 “at risk” areas around the country.

The whopping plan will also provide funding for a National Broadband service, whilst an additional amount of money will be allocated for residential energy efficiency programme.
