It has been confirmed that Irish rugby star Simon Zebo has been granted compassionate leave from the Irish squad after his grandfather John Geary sadly passed away at Cork University Hospital on Sunday evening.
It is understood that Zebo flew home to Cork yesterday afternoon to be with his family, Zebo will attend a funeral Mass for Mr Geary, the father of Zebo’s mother Lynda, later today at Saint Michael’s Church in Blackrock in Cork City.
The IRFU a brief statement regarding the sad news and Zebo’s temporary absence saying: “Simon has been granted compassionate leave by the tournament and returned to Ireland this morning. He is due back with the squad tomorrow.”
