The government is to spend €320 million of taxpayer’s money over the next few years to establish new Direct Provision centres in order to accommodate 5,500 more asylum seekers.
This comes at a time when thousands of Irish citizens face Christmas and a bitterly cold winter, homeless.
It has been revealed that the Department of Justice is offering tenders for potential providers to operate eight new asylum seeker centres.
Ireland’s Direct Provision system is currently over stretched and the government’s attempts to establish new asylum seeker centres in small, rural communities has been met with popular resistance by local citizens in towns such as Oughterard, Rooskey and Moville.
In response the government has renewed its push for legislation to control speech in order to stifle voices speaking out about the EU mandated migrant plantations. During Dáil discussions opposition to mass migration and the current asylum seeker policies of the government were sighted as cause for “hate speech” legislation.
Those speaking out against the EU mandated migrant plantations were not only cited as reason for “hate speech” legislation by Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan but also by opposition Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny, which suggests the legislation is likely to pass when put to the Dáil.
