Govt are establishing ‘mobility hubs’ to borrow electric vehicles, says Ryan

An Oireachtas committee heard that the government plans to set up 200 mobility centres throughout the country where citizens may check out electric cars and e-bikes.

Although transport emissions are still rising, Minister of the Environment Eamon Ryan acknowledged to the Climate Action Committee that last year’s acceleration was slower and total emissions were lower.

“While we don’t have final figures yet, my estimate is we will see at least around 5% reduction in emissions last year,” he said, reports RTE.

The minister emphasised that even if there was a 1%–2% growth in transport, the sale of electric vehicles is improving.

“Electric vehicle adoption is surging, with a total of over 114,000 EVs now on Irish roads,” he said, reports RTE.

“Almost 65,000 are pure battery electric. We are on track to meet the 2025 target of 195,000 EVs,” reports RTE.

Richard Bruton, a TD for Fine Gael, harshly condemned local government records regarding promoting and easing the usage of electric vehicles.
