The government fear that a large number of migrant tents will appear again along Dublin’s Grand canal after they were removed on Thursday once again.
Several tents used by asylum seekers were taken down from a part of Dublin’s Grand Canal, reports RTE.
According to GardaÃ, the International Protection Accommodation Service’s contact details were given to the tent residents at Percy Place with regards to lodging.
Gardaà said that all of the people were relocated “without further incident,” reports RTE.
“Gardaà attended at Percy Place in response to reports from the pertinent agency. An Garda SÃochána’s main responsibility during such operations is to stop any incident involving public order or a breach of peace, according to a statement from the gardaÃ.
Last week, the steel fence that had been built in Portobello to stop tents from being set up along the banks of Dublin’s Grand Canal was taken down, reports RTE.
The removal of a “section of temporary fencing” was reported by Waterways Ireland, which described the move as “a further step to fully reopen the canal amenity.”
This month, the organisation started patrolling the canal around-the-clock “to deter erection of illegal encampments”.
Waterways Ireland stated on September 10 that the action was a part of a trial program to fully reopen the canal facility, reports RTE.
