GP Charged With Murder Of 11 Year Old Daughter




IndiaTvc70946_woman_arrest56-year-old Bernadette Scully has been arrested in connection with the murder of her 11-year-old daughter Emily Barut in their Offaly home over two years ago.

Ms Scully of Emvale, Bachelors Walk, Tullamore appeared before Tullamore District Court yesterday morning faced with charges of murdering her own daughter at the Bachelors walk September 15th 2012.

At 9:40 yesterday morning Det Sgt Glavin gave evidence of arresting Ms Scully at Bachelors Walk.

He said that “in response to the charge on caution Ms Scully made no reply.”

He applied to have her remanded in custody until she reappears before Tullamore District Court on Wednesday. Given the nature of the charge she could not make an application for bail stated defence solicitor Patricia Cronin however she told Judge Catherine Staines that an application will be made for legal aid.

Ms Cronin asked that any necessary medical attention be provided and she asked that her client be medically assessed which Judge Staines then recommended.

11-year-old Emily Barut was severely disabled with cerebral palsy, she used a wheelchair and require 24-hour care.

On the day in question, emergency services were called to the family home after they received a phone call from Dr Scully’s partner, Lithuanian born Andrius Kozlovskis, where they found Emily unconscious She was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The accused is to remain in custody to the Dohas Centre to reappear before Tullamore District Court on Wednesday.
