Great news Communications’ Workers Union agrees to call off postal strike

There was some welcome news this evening as workers have confirmed that strike action at the country’s postal services has been called off.

The news comes after the Communications’ Workers Union has said they are willing to suspend industrial action at IO Systems. In a statement released to the press earlier, the union said the company have agreed to reinstate workers in their jobs at the agreed wage levels and proposed rostering arrangements.

The agreement has been hugely welcomed by An Post, who said: “Customers may resume posting letters and parcels tomorrow.” An Post also released a statement regarding the outcome this evening which said: “Normal working will resume this evening in mails processing centres and any mail on hands will be prioritised for delivery.” “The company also said it will take a number of days to restore the normal quality of service levels for mail.

They also said that there is no need to panic as the Department of Social Protection cheque payments by mail and Passport Express services will be in full operation immediately.
