Group of five successfully rescued after getting into trouble on Carrauntoohil

A group of five people who were stranded on Howling Ridge, on the northeast face of Carrauntoohil, County Kerry, have been rescued from the mountain this afternoon.

Kerry Mountain Rescue Team volunteer Gerry Christie said the group of three women and two men appeared to be lost last night before calling for help around 11pm on Sunday night.

Due to the conditions and the terrain they were in, it was not possible to continue until this morning and find a safe route down.

Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter 115 assisted in the rescue, bringing seven members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team up to assist the group.

The group was then led down the Ladder path. Christie said everyone was safe and there were no injuries to report.
