Local police rushed to the scene after gunfire was heard inside Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, in early Sunday, local time.
Pulse is a well-known, gay-friendly venue in the locality.
Police forces have advised of ‘multiple injuries’, but no fatalities have yet been confirmed.
There are also reports that a gunman may still be holed up inside the premises, holding hostages.
