Harris says there is a ‘clear plan’ on recognising state of Palestine

The Taoiseach, Simon Harris, stated that he had a “clear plan” for Palestine recognition with Pedro Sanchez, his Spanish counterpart, earlier this week, reports RTE.

Mr. Harris, however, has stated that neither he nor Mr. Sanchez desired a date to be made public.

It was revealed yesterday that Ireland, Spain, and several other EU members are thinking about recognising the State of Palestine on May 21st together.

In the event that discussions result in a two-state solution in the Middle East, the action is intended to offer moral and diplomatic support to the Palestinian stance.

Following a bilateral meeting between the two presidents in April, when attempts to acknowledge the state of Palestine were the main item on the agenda, Mr. Harris and Mr. Sanchez talked over the phone on Monday morning.

“There is never a wrong time to do the right thing and the right thing to do right now is to recognise the State of Palestine,” Mr Harris told reporters this morning, reports RTE.

He asserted that in order to maintain hope for a two-state solution, Palestine must be accepted.

Speaking with other leaders in the coming hours, according to Mr. Harris, is something that is still being discussed with other nations, reports RTE.
