Harris: The patriotic thing to do on St Patrick’s Day is to follow public health guidelines

The Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris has said that people should not meet up on St Patrick’s Day as any potential easing of restrictions on April 5th could be impacted.

Speaking this afternoon at the Apprenticeship Incentivisation Scheme, at Bus Éireann, Harris said that the most patriotic thing to do is to follow public health advice.

Harris said any potential surge could impact any potential decision on lifting restrictions on April 5th.

He went on to say that the Government would consider easing the 5km rule, reopening construction and lift restrictions on some outdoor activities.

The former Health Minister said that the Government wants to discuss the easing of restrictions with public health officials within the next fortnight and people meeting up on St Patrick’s Day could impact such decisions.
