Harris under pressure as Independent TD’s look to submit a motion of no confidence

The Minister for Health Simon Harris could soon be under more pressure as rural TD’s are looking to submit a motion of no confidence in the Health Minister.

In a move that could potentially bring down the current government and result in an earlier than expected General Election, rural Independent TD’s are looking to pursue a motion of no confidence in the wake of the growing hospital trolley crisis and other issues within the health service.

Speaking to RTÉ, Cork Independent TD Michael Collins said he was looking to submit the motion given the escalating crisis.

Meanwhile fellow Independent TD’s Michael Healy-Rae and Mattie McGrath has said they would support a motion of no confidence in the Health Minister.

It is expected that both TD’s will meet fellow rural Independent TD’s Noel Grealish and Michael Lowry in an effort to gain more support for the motion.

The news comes as both Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil leaders Leo Varadkar and Mícheál Martin met on Thursday evening to discuss the future plans of the Dail before the next General Election.

It is hoped that the Dáil will resume next Wednesday in order for a number of legislative measures to be passed before a General Election is called.
