Harris: We think the backlog of testing will be resolved by the end of next week

The Minister for Health Simon Harris has said that the government expect the backlog of coronavirus testing to be resolved by the end of next week.

Simon Harris said that between 25,000 and 30,000 tests were sent to Germany and that more than half of the results were returned, with the rest expected next week.

Speaking to reporters this morning, Harris said that the government hopes that the backlog will be resolved by the end of next week.

Harris said they hope to move to a place where people can get their test results in 48 hours.

He said the virus was not where Ireland needed it to be and urged people to stay on course with current restrictions.

Last night the Ministry of Health revised the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases here after taking into account the results demonstrated in Germany.
