Harris will meet families of Stardust victims later today

Today, Taoiseach Simon Harris will meet with the relatives of the Stardust victims in order to expeditiously offer an apology from the State.

It is known that the Taoiseach would likely make a statement about the Stardust judgements and inquests at the Government’s request to reserve Dáil time on Tuesday.

But Mr. Harris has not yet indicated if he would be able to apologise on Tuesday; he could have to wait until tomorrow, when the relatives of the victims assemble at Government Buildings, to make that announcement.

The family of the victims will meet with the Taoiseach at Government Buildings in the morning, according to Stardust activist Antoinette Keegan.

Prior to the Taoiseach meeting, the families will also have a meeting with Mary Lou McDonald, the leader of Sinn Féin.

A jury concluded Wednesday that the fire originated in a hot press due to an electrical malfunction and that all 48 victims were illegally murdered on February 14, 1981.

Yesterday, the Dublin District Coroner’s Court heard the majority verdicts, to the cheers of survivors and family members.
