According to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office, this marks a slight increase in the cost of living compared to the 1.8% annual rate recorded in March.

The figures are drawn from the EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices, which also shows that inflation across the euro zone stood at 2.2% for the year to March, reports RTE.

In Ireland, food prices are estimated to have climbed by 0.6% in the past month and by 3.1% over the last year.

Meanwhile, energy prices are believed to have declined by 0.3% in April and dropped by 1.7% over the past 12 months, reflecting a notable decrease in global oil prices, reports RTE.
