Brendan McDonagh, the chief of NAMA, has informed Housing Minister James Browne that he no longer wishes to be considered for the position of CEO at the Government’s newly established Housing Activation Office, according to RTÉ.
Earlier, Tánaiste Simon Harris stated in the Dáil that no decisions had been finalized regarding the leadership of the office, as reported by RTÉ. This came amid ongoing criticism from the opposition about a potential salary of €430,000 for Housing Minister Browne’s preferred candidate, Brendan McDonagh, the head of NAMA.
The Cabinet housing committee is scheduled to address this politically sensitive topic this afternoon. The Tánaiste, as per RTÉ, confirmed that discussions are now shifting towards determining who will staff the new office.
The Housing Activation Office aims to eliminate obstacles hindering home delivery nationwide. The unit will prioritize collaboration with local authorities, builders, and utility providers to accelerate housing construction. Despite these goals, political attention has predominantly centred on the leadership of the new office.
