“He can’t even speak English properly”, “Let him get on with it” – Mixed reactions to new Deputy Mayor of Limerick Bangladeshi Muslim Azad Talukdar




There’s been a very mixed to the appointment of the new Deputy Lord Mayor of Limerick, Azad Talukdar. Some social media users are claiming that he can’t even speak English properly while others are saying that they’ll wait and see how he gets on with the job.

Limerick’s newly appointed Deputy Lord Mayor of Limerick has been announced as Azad Talukdar.

The Bangladeshi man is a member of Fianna Fail and believed to be the first Muslim to hold the position.
For his part, the Fianna Fail man is understood will try and help migrants get housed in Ireland’s fourth largest city.

As the demographics of Ireland continue to rapidly shift due to open borders and mass migration, it is likely that foreign nationals from diverse ethnic backgrounds will take up positions of power as political parties attempt to score diversity points.

Man on social media have fears of a growing prevalence of tribal, identity politics that will see ethnic Irish people given less consideration from elected officials.
