Social media users say that they’re absolutely astonished that Micheal Martin would be even considered a potential candidate for President of Ireland.
This is the year where Ireland will elect a new President, and, believe it or not, Martin’s name is in the mix.
However,Michael Martin has said that he will not be seeking the presidency this year, it’s not the right time for him.
Mr. Martin stated that he was concentrating on his duties as Taoiseach, emphasising the importance of housing and disability concerns.
Since Michael D. Higgins has served the maximum number of terms allowed, a presidential election will be held later in 2025.
Mr. Martin responded, “No, I will not be running for president,” when asked if he would think about putting his name up, reports Breaking News.
“I’ve the honour now of being elected as Taoiseach,” reports Breaking News.
According to Mr. Martin, he promised the residents of his Cork South Central constituency that he would serve their interests for the duration of the Dáil term.
He added: “That’s something I take seriously. Fortunately, the election went well and I’m Taoiseach as well as a TD and that’s a great honour. I will focus on my work as Taoiseach and as a member of this Government. Housing is the number one issue. Disability is something that, for me, is unfinished business,” reports Breaking News.
The Taoiseach expressed his desire for government agencies to collaborate in order to improve the lives of those with disabilities.
