Tributes have poured in from around Ireland for Garda Colm Horkan who tragically was killed while on duty on Wednesday night.
The garda detective was shot and died in Castlerea, Co Roscommon when a shooting occurred near Castlerea Garda Station on the main street of the town.
He stopped a man on a motorbike who ended up in a physical confrontation with him. Garda Horkan was shot with his own gun a number of times.
He was administered the Last Rites by the local priest at the scene.
A man aged in his 40s has been arrested and is being held at Castlerea Garda Station. A murder investigation is under way with further details to be released later.
