
“Just doing his day’s work” is how one local Fianna Fáil councillor described the man who died after his car crashed into the Grand Canal in County Kildare, reports Breaking News.
A “terrible tragedy” occurred in the days preceding Christmas, according to Cllr. Darragh Fitzpatrick.
“It’s such a loss for the community. He was just doing his day’s work, delivering food and he didn’t come home,” reports Breaking News.
The man, identified locally as Jason Hallahan (47), who lived in Prosperous, Kildare, but was originally from Clondalkin, has received tributes.
At around 8 p.m. on Saturday, the incident took place close to the Travellers Rest Pub in Grangeclare West, Kilmeague, reports Breaking News.
Under the supervision of two garda divers who assisted in securing the car when it was recovered from the canal, the Garda Water Unit extracted a black four-door Suzuki Swift hatchback on Monday morning.
Although paramedics treated the man’s corpse after it was removed from the water, it was declared dead at the site, reports Breaking News.
“Rip Jay will love and miss you forever because fly high, I know you will have the best bed up there,” Claire Veale Mullally, his cousin, said in a heartfelt remembrance.
Jason’s extended family, mother Patricia, father Seamus, partner Sharon, and daughter Evelyn all express their sincere remorse, reports Breaking News.
On Monday, December 30th, at 2:30 pm, there will be a Celebration of Life Service in the Chapel at Newlands Cross Crematorium. Cremation will follow.
Anyone with pertinent information or who may have observed the event is being urged to come forward by the Gardaí.
Those with video recordings, like drivers with dash cams, are especially attractive to the Gardaí, reports Breaking News.
