In what can only be described as an absolute tragedy, an inquest has found that 12-day-old Eibhlín Wills died after contracting a common cold sore.
According to RTE, the little girl contracted the cold sore just five days into her life.
Blood tests showed that there was no sign of the infection three days after birth but unfortunately the infection was present two days later in samples taken when Eibhlín was five days old.
It’s understood that the baby contracted a hospital-acquired infection.
Eibhlín’s family described the loss of their beautiful baby as nothing short of absolute horror.
