A newborn baby girl has miraculously survived after being dumped into a septic tank containing human waste by her mother.
The horrific incident which occurred in a small village in southern Guatemala, has now led to police investigation.
According to reports it is believed the 20 day old baby girl was found in the dangerous waste when a woman heard her cries just before she was about to use the toilet.
It is understood the 48-year-old woman was left horrified when officers from the National Civil Police pulled the distressed baby girl from the four metre deep waste tank.
The shocking incident which occurred in Rio de la Virgen, Jutiapa, has now prompted police to find the newborns mother who apparently left her daughter to die in the tank.
Police say the baby who was rescued within minutes was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated by medics who say it was a miracle that the baby who is now in stable condition survived.
Although police are searching for the baby girls mother, they have said they are currently not looking to arrest her as they do not know what prompted her to dump her daughter in the tank.
