A one year old baby boy has tragically died as he and his mother tried to flee the rising waters caused by Storm Florence.

The little boy named Kaiden Lee-Welch, was sadly found dead on Monday, after the rushing waters near Richardson Creek in NC, swept him away from his mother who was attempting to evade the oncoming flood waters.

According to authorities in North Carolina the devastating incident occurred when Kaiden’s mum was travelling on the 218 interstate going towards Wadesboro.

It is understood the vehicle the desperate mother was travelling in was swept up the rising waters before it came to stop in some fallen trees.

However as the frantic mother tried to leave her vehicle with little Kaiden in her  arms the strong current from the flood waters caused her to lose grip of little Kaiden who was tragically swept away from her.

Following a widespread search the infant was sadly found dead by rescue workers in the area.

The infants death comes after the devastating storm claimed the lives of 18 people in both North and South Carolina since it made landfall last Thursday.

Although the powerful storm has been downgraded in recent days, authorities in both States have said rising waters from persistent rainfall is still causing damage to the region.

They also say the rising flood waters pose a serious threat to life.
