County Donegal, and the country at large, are today reeling from the tragedy that claimed the lives of five members of a Derry family at Buncrana Pier yesterday.
The five victims have now been named; they are Sean McGrotty (48), from St Eithne’s Park in the Hazelbank area, his two sons, Mark James (12) and Evan James (8), Ruth Daniels (57) and her daughter Jodie-Lee Daniels (15), from Ederowen Park in Galliagh.
The five perished when the vehicle they were travelling in accidentally slipped off the pier and into the water. A passerby jumped in to help and managed to pull a two-month old baby girl to safety.
Gardai are treating the event as a tragic accident.
