Health officials in the UK have sadly confirmed that two premature babies have died after contracting Staphylococcus aureus at a neonatal unit.

According to Sky News, the deaths which occurred at Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow, has now led to investigation by an Incident Management Team.

It is reported that the two babies who died were in poor health and the infection was a contributing factor.

Experts say Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium that is found on skin and the nasal passage.

However it can be fatal to people with poor immune systems as can cause a serious infection once it enters the body.

It is understood that the IMT have introduced a number of measures at the hospital in order to prevent the spread of the infection.
