The AA has joined the gardai in advising people to be extremely careful this morning as roads are said to be very treacherous.
A very hard frost, ice and snow fell overnight with worst affected areas in the West and North of the of the country.
Met Eireann has advised that black ice will be on the roads this morning with the AA advising people drive slower than usual after temperatures dropped to -4c with snow having fallen widespread across the country.
People are asked to leave earlier that usual if possible as traffic will be at a standstill.
From 10pm onward last night, a frost fell, with snow especially on the West coast with temperatures plummeting to -5c.
Temperatures are set to drop to -5c from tonight with Thursday looking like the worst day weather-wise with snow expected.
