Thor star Chris Hemsworth is back as the Huntsman for the follow up to Snow White and the Huntsman.

This time the character of Snow White is not involved and we are left with Australian actor Hemsworth (32) to carry ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War’ with a little help from his female co-stars.

Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame played Snow White in the first one that came out in 2012. It was a twist to the well known fairy tale, as in it the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.

It did not fare too well and earned a 48 percent rating on the site Rotten Tomatoes. They stated, “While it offers an appropriately dark take on the fairy tale that inspired it, Snow White and the Huntsman is undone by uneven acting, problematic pacing, and a confused script.”

Events in the new one take place before and after the events portrayed in ‘Snow White and the Huntsman.’ Snow White’s wicked stepmother The Evil Queen Ravenna played by Charlize Theron is back.

Emily Blunt plays The Ice Queen Freya who is the younger sister of Ravenna. When Freya, a young queen who can freeze her enemies in ice, learns of the demise of her sister, the evil Ravenna (Charlize Theron), she summons her soldiers to recover the Magic Mirror.

“Mirror, Mirror on the wall who is the most powerful of them of them all?” Freya asks the mirror in the trailer.

After resurrecting Ravenna, the two wicked sisters amass a seemingly indestructible army that threatens the kingdom. Only the skills of Eric (Chris Hemsworth) and Sara (Jessica Chastain), two warriors who defied Freya by falling in love, can save the enchanted land from the forces of darkness.

One trailer shows how Freya is left heartbroken after the death of her child and she goes into an icy fortress. Her character brings to mind that of the The White Witch from ‘The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by CS Lewis.

Nick Frost is back as the dwarf Nion. He is the only one of the dwarfs from the previous film to return.

Hemsworth’s career is on a high ever since he played Captain Kirk’s heroic dad in Star Trek in 2009. He went on to snag the role of Marvel hero Thor but it remains to be seen if he has the acting chops for more diverse roles.

Recently he appeared in ‘Into the Heart of the Sea’ and will be seen next in the new Ghostbuster’s film as the secretary to the all female Ghostbusters. The next Thor movie Thor:Ragnarok is in pre-production. The Huntsman opens on 8th April.
