Here is a list of the cost of living changes in Budget 2025 that come into effect this week




As part of Budget 2025, a number of adjustments are scheduled to take effect in the days ahead, reports The Mirror.

Certain provisions of the October 1 budget, like cost-of-living incentives and lump sum payments, have already been implemented in recent months.

But starting in January, a lot more controls will be put into place. According to RSVP Live, they include new grants, tax adjustments, and payment increases, reports The Mirror.

The following cost-of-living adjustments will go into effect on January 1:

  • A €12 increase in most weekly social welfare payments. There will be proportionate increases for qualified adults and people getting a reduced rate
  • €15 increase in Maternity Benefit, Paternity Benefit, Adoptive Benefit and Parent’s Benefit, reports The Mirror.
  • Weekly rates of Child Support Payment (previously known as Increase for a Qualified Child) will increase by €8 to €62 for those aged 12 and over, and by €4 to €50 for those under 12
  • Newborn Baby Grant of €280 in addition to the first month of Child Benefit (€140) for children born on or after December 1 2024, reports The Mirror.
  • Regardless of the size of the family, the Working Family Payment income criteria will rise by €60 per week.
  • Self-employed individuals are now eligible for the Carer’s Benefit.
  • After fulfilling all requirements of the Fuel Allowance program, including passing the Fuel Allowance means test, Carer’s Allowance will be eligible to receive Fuel Allowance, reports The Mirror.
  • Monthly Domiciliary Care Allowance rise of €20
  • Starting in January 2025, the sum that is not considered when you sell your house to go into care will rise to €337,500 for people who receive State Pension (non-contributory), Disability Allowance, or Blind Pension.
  • More individuals will be eligible for this assistance as the Fuel Allowance means test disregard was extended to those 66 and older, and it is now €524 for single persons and €1,048 for couples, reports The Mirror.
