“He’s completely lost the plot” – Uproar at Richard Boyd Barrett calling on government to adopt emergency powers to seize private property from Irish citizens in order to house refugees

Social media users have been angered at suggestions made by left leaning TD Richard Boyd Barrett.

Certain users have been saying that he’s completely lost the plot and is totally out of touch with what the decent ordinary Irish person actually wants to see happen in our country.

Irish citizens have expressed outrage on social media at People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett calling for the invoking of the Emergency Powers Act 1939 in response to the existing housing crisis that has been dramatically exacerbated by the government adopting an open borders policy to refugees allegedly fleeing the war the in Ukraine.

The Emergency Powers Act 1939 was first imposed upon the outbreak of the Second World War when Ireland faced the prospect of sever fuel and food shortages as well as the possible invasion of the country by either Britain or Germany.

These powers, if once again invoked, would allow the government to seize private property such as holiday or second homes or vacant properties, buildings or land in order to house Ukrainian and other refugees.

The government have already called on Irish citizens to open their homes to refugees and called on those with holiday homes to offer up these properties for the accommodation of asylum seekers while hotels across the country are being filled with refugees at an exorbitant expense to the tax payer.

All of these emergency measures to house refugees come at a time when thousands of Irish remain homeless and tens of thousands more languish on social housing lists or are unable to purchase homes privately due to the massive property price bubble currently enveloping the country.
